Zurich latest to drop out of Net-Zero Insurance Alliance

Local weather campaigners react to NZIA exits

Local weather campaigners had been fast to react to Zurich’s exit from the insurance coverage alliance.

Jennifer Buchli, a local weather campaigner from Zurich-based social justice collective Campax, mentioned that “in contrast to Munich Re and different friends, Zurich continues to underwrite new oil and fuel tasks.”

“It’s not credible for Zurich to have interaction their prospects on the web zero transition so long as the insurer doesn’t finish their help for the growth of oil and fuel extraction themselves.”

Peter Bosshard, coordinator of the Insure Our Future marketing campaign, mentioned: “The NZIA has allowed itself to be immobilised by antitrust considerations from the beginning. With Munich Re and now Zurich leaving the alliance, insurers have a good greater direct accountability to align their companies with a reputable 1.5C pathway,” he mentioned.
